The injunction against a county sheriffs department patrolling highways “comes from a ruling of the Compensation Board. It’s not law,” said Fauquier Sheriff Luther Cox at last Thursday’s meeting of the Rappahannock-Rapid an Planning District Commission.
The ruling was issued by the Compensation Board to eliminate payments to localities for practices that duplicated the State Police function of highway patrolling, Cox said.
His remarks were occasioned by a possible solution, put forward by Commission Chairman Pete Luke, toward solving the continuing disagreement in Rappahannock County between the Sheriffs Department and Commonwealth Attorney George Davis over mileage claims deemed “improper” by Davis.
