To the editor:
The patrolling of the highways and secondary roads in Rappahannock County is certainly an important function of our sheriff and his deputies. And one due the taxpayers. Surely it is as important to prevent crime as it is to catch tl\e criminal after the crime' is committed—if not more so. Questioning the charges submitted by the SherrifPs Department to cover 'mileage for such patrolling seems completely out of order and a form of harrassment. It is a comforting feeling to know that our scattered homes are of concern to our peace officers—a service most of us have taken for granted up to now and one we certainly do not wish to lose.
