Police Function Not Problem
He predicted that a comprehensive study would show problems weren’t arising in the “police function. . .It’s further down the line that we begin to suspect the criminal justice system might be breaking down,” Cimino said, adding that he wasn’t sure of the reasons for the breakdown.
He suggested that the Commissioners pick a county at random from the Planning District for an indepth study, possibly keeping the identity of the county anonymous. “You’re likely to come out with some surprising information,” declared Cimino.
“Umpires” Or “Coaches”?
If the problem doesn’t lie with the “ball players”, does it involve the “umpires”? asked Commissioner Bob Anderson.
Commissioner Dick McNear substituted “coaches” for “umpires” before Cimino could respond.
“Has everyone broken the code yet?” asked Luke.
The Commissioners voted unanimously to request that the Criminal Justice Advisory Council look into the feasibility of a comprehensive study of the District’s criminal justice system and report back at the commission’s July meeting.
“I’d volunteer Fauquier for the study,” interjected Sheriff Cox.
