New Peak
Potomac Edison officials reported that the power company hit a new summer peak at 5 p.m. on Monday, July 18, with the production of 1235 megawatts of electricity. The previous peak, 1171 megawatts, occured last August, according to company spokesman Jim Poplar.
Unlike other electric companies that serve more metropolitan areas, Potomac Edison is not experiencing any voltage capacity problems and has not had to ask customers to curtail or control use, said Poplar. “We’re a winter peaking company,” he continued, “so we’re getting along pretty well right now” despite the continuing heat wave.
