The Voter Registrars Association of Virginia sent survey questionnaires on the proposed registration change to General Registrars in the state’s 136 cities and counties. Of the 87 per cent who responded, all but four opposed the passage of H. R. 5400.
Mrs. Cleverley urged citizens who support the Association’s opposition to passage of the legislation to write their representatives, Congressman , J.s Kenneth Robinson. Senators Harry Byrd, Jr. and William Scott, stating their views.
If non-participation in the electoral process is a problem the Carter Administration wants solved, Mrs. Geverley suggested that other solutions be explored. “Australia fines citizens who don’t vote. Maybe we should do that,” she concluded.
