An Illusion
To the editor: There is an illusion in the minds of a few in Rappahannock County that growth is good, that on August 4th at 10 o’clock in the morning, the Board of Supervisors should approve the desecration of another piece of open space.
But what do subdivisions indiscriminately scattered all over the county do for us? They:
Destroy our ability to use the land for farming, grazing or forestry.
Run our taxes ever higher as we try to support the schools, roads and services required.
Drive out the Bradford’s and Baldwin’s, the Cash Store and Corner Store and others like them and replace them with Seven-Elevens and McDonalds.
Increase crime, noise and pollution, turn our streams into sewers.
Fail to provide the middle income housing that we do need around our existing villages.
Lower the value of our property as they destroy the scenic beauty of the countryside and eliminate the wild life.
