Virginia, which achieved an unprecedented fourth consecutive year in the reduction of motor-vehicle traffic deaths in 1976, could be on its way to an even more significant accomplishment in 1977.
Colonel D. M. Slane, Superintendent of State Police, announced today that tentative six-month statistics for the current year indicate 462 persons have lost their lives on Virginia highways since January 1. The State has not had a lower sixmonth total since 1963 when 449 traffic deaths were recorded.
