The Rappahannock School Board members and administration personnel, are going to have to dig down deep into their budget pockets for the coming year and find money to purchase two new cars for bus driver transportation.
Superintendent William Bloomer reported at the July 12 meeting of the Board that the two vehicles used in carpools to get school bus drivers back home after their morning runs were no longer available. One of the automobiles is now used by elementary principal Buddy Carter and the second has an expired inspection sticker and is not worth repairing, according to Bloomer. Either the school system will have to secure additional vehicles or allow the drivers to take their buses home in the mornings, he said.
Chairman Beverly Massie noted that Board members would have to weigh the cost outlay for a new vehicle against wear and tear on school buses, if the policy of providing transportation for bus drivers was to continue.
“There’s no other solution but to get two more cars” when relative costs are compared, maintained Board member Walter Masterson.
No Money
Bloomer commented that there’s nothing in the budget for replacement of service vehicles.
“Where’s the money going to come from?” asked Mrs. Massie.
