Farms which have been in the same family for at least 200 yean are being sought by the Virginia Farm Bureau, according to Ian Pryde, Rappahannock County Farm Bureau president.
The farms, begun before or during 1777, will be recognized as “Bicentennial Farms” by the Virginia Farm Bureau.
Registered farms must have been owned by the same family for at least 200 yean and must be 10 acres or larger. The farmowner does not have to be a Farm Bureau member.
“The line of ownership from the first family member owning the land may be through wives and husbands, children, brothers and sisters, nephews and nieces. Adopted children will be recognized equally with blood children.” Mr. Pryde said.
