operator,” said Mrs. Quaintance. “We can’t find a dentist to come anymore. In the past, the head of the Richmond Dental School was a great help in keeping the clinic in operation,” she said. “He found dental school graduates who were at least willing to come to the county until they established a practice elsewhere. I reckon over the years eight or ten came and looked and decided to go on to larger towns.”
Mrs. Quaintance had some parting advice to offer Rappahannock teachers and administrators. “The best thing that a teacher or principal can do is get to know parents. When I first taught, I visited every child’s home.” She acknowledged that this personal contact was easier when the county had neighborhood schools.
She noted that her work had been made easier by the help of others involved in the Rappahannock school
