Saturday night was filled with dancing as the JuniorSenior Prom of 1978 was held. The theme was “The Way I Feel Tonight” and the band was just terrific! The Junior class did a great job with the decorations along with the refreshments that were devoured by hungry dancers.
On Monday, the girls varsity track team brought back another victory, this time from Montevideo. The girls have the only team in the district that hasn’t lost a meet. Performances were pretty good for a Monday morning, highlighted by Jamelle Prudham setting a new school record in the 220 yard dash.
Montevideo came over the mountain Tuesday to be defeated by our varsity baseball team. Final score was 4-3 with the guys giving a good show for the home crowd. Roger Jenkins tossed a five hitter and struck out eight batters to pick up his second win in the district. Gary Leake with a two-run single and Donnie Compton with a one-run single provided the offense. Brooke Miller scored the winning run as he stole second and the throw went to the fence in left center field. It was a fine team effort, particularly since,# Montevideo had only one loss going into the contest with the Panthers.
The fifth six-weeks grading period has ended and report cards come out on Thursday. The last six-weeks of the year is beginning and for the Seniors, it will be a busy one. Many can't wait to “walk the stage” and receive their diplomas while others are contemplating failing an English course so they can return next year! (We do believe we’d think twice about that one.)
The National Honor Society will be putting out the final edition of Panther Pause so everyone will be saving up their ice cream money to purchase an issue. It will be well worth it and everyone could do without those extra calories from the ice cream.
That's all we’ve got for this week. Have a pleasant weekend and may the Force be with you.
