Arc high food prices making you angry? Before blaming the farmers for the increase, look at these facts. We now pay more for labor to have our food processed and marketed than we pay the farmers for producing it. In 1973-74 the farmer received close to 40 per cent of the cost of the retail food value, but in 1977 he received only 31 per cent. A government study released this spring shows that direct labor accounts for nearly 50 per cent of the total food bill. Packaging accounts for 13 per cent, transportation 8 per cent and energy 3 per cent.
