Attorney General Marshall Coleman announced on Monday the establishment of an energy advisory panel, whose first task will be to assist the Attorney General’s Office in investigating Vepco s $246 million rate request now before the State Corporation Commission. Coleman said the panej would help to end the atmosphere of crisis that surrounds most utility rate cases. “Our problem is that we are again acting in a crisis atmosphere of claim and counterclaim ... of one expert witness contradicting the testimony of another ... making it almost impossible to get behind the balance sheet to find out whether a rate increase is actually necessary, and if so how much,” Coleman said.
