The Rappahannock Junior Varsity girls* track team closed their season with a victory over Central and Strasburg, at Central, on Tuesday, April 25, to emerge undefeated and the best in RCHS JV girls’ track track history.
The team is composed of spirited eighth graders and experienced freshmen. They have worked hard, usually practicing with the Varisty team to the benefit of both.
The first meet the JV’s had was against the Strasburg Rams on April 5. The results were worth all of the strain on everyone's nerves: Strasburg JV—31, Rappahannock JV—81.
Individual performances were good and top scorers for the team were Tracy Welch with 15 points, Debbie Seal and Beth Hodson with 13, Bobette Swindler with 11, and Kathy Jenkins, Beth Fannon, Tammy Atkins and Desiree Poehler with 10 points each.
All members contributed much to the team goal and in the 100 yd. dash, Rappahannock placed in all four positions.
The next day, they faced Stonewall Jackson and Montevideo at SJHS and, despite having had a meet the day previous, the girls turned in fine results as they overpowered Montevideo’s 43 points and Stonewall Jackson’s 33‘/a with their 66'/i points, with five firsts, four seconds, seven thirds and six fourths.
