The breeding of registered purebred dogs in Rappahannock is an interesting and possible lucrative hobby as a number of people have discovered. Marilyn Baily of Washington is among this number, though she says she hasn't been in the business long enough to realize the capacity of the venture.

Marilyn raises toy poodles and in a recent litter she delivered were four pups, the smallest weighing only three ounces. This is most uncommon for this breed which generally has no more than two in a litter.

In contrast to the general idea that poodles are delicate creatures, lap dogs with bows in their hair, is the realization that at one time they were working dogs, hunter's and retrievers, according to research recently published.
