The standing ovation given Mrs. Katherine Riley Monday evening by her peers, members of the Amissville Homemakers Club, adequately described their feelings. Words could not. The event was the annual Christmas dinner meeting of the club, and at that time new yearbooks, dedicated to Mrs. Riley, were issued.
Katherine is a charter member of the club, originally organized in 1932, and has held several offices. She has been treasurer of the organization for the past ten years and was unanimously named to that position again at Monday's meeting. Previously she had been its president for a two year period, and secretarytreasurer for a number of years between 1932 and 1957 when it disbanded.
For the next five years the Amissville club participated temporarily with a Washington group. The present club was organized in 1963. Katherine has given demonstrations, helped with Ruritan dinners and fund raising luncheons, served as a 4-H leader, judged fairs, • helped with rummage sales and assisted many people with sewing problems. She has braided a 10x12 rug for her living room, caned chairs, made draperies, slipcovers and clothing for herself and others.
