Planners voted to advertise jointly for a public hearing at the regular Commission meeting on August 16. The vote authorizing the advertisement was taken at the close of the evening session.
However, the advertisement for the public hearing was delivered to the Rappahannock News that morning—approximately 11 hours before the vote. In addition, the Planners called a special meeting two days earlier on Monday, August 14.
They failed to notify anyone of the special meeting and kept no minutes of the proceedings.
As advertised in the Rappahannock News on August 17 and 24, the Planning Commission held a public hearing on the proposed ski area amendments on August 31.
The Planners listened to testimony but didn’t discuss the amendments at that time. They held a second meeting four days later on Monday, September 4. and again took no action on a recommendation to the Supervisors. (At this special meeting also, no minutes were taken.)
Apparently, it was at this second meeting that the Planners agreed to ask for more time from the Supervisors to consider the ordinance amendments.
Seven Days Allowed
Supervisor Luke read a letter to this effect at the Supervisors public hearing held Thursday. September 7. No action was taken on the Planners' request and instead. the Supervisors adopted the proposed ordinance amendments by majority vote with Supervisor H. B. Wood in opposition.
