The Rush River Company artisans will present their annual Christmas open house on Saturday. December 16, from 10 a.m. to S p.m. Guests of honor James J. Kilpatrick and Eugene McCarthy will be on hand from 2 to 4 p.m. to autograph their new book, “The Political Bestiary.” ' The Rush River artisans invite the public to come meet the authors and the cooperative members, have some refreshments and maybe do a little Christmas shopping from a selection of unique, locally crafted gifts. The Rush River Company, an artist and craftsmen’s venture located across the street from the Rappahannock Clinic in the town of Washington, offers a combination Of handmade items displayed in a late 18th century building which once housed the town’s general store.

The eight members of the cooperative take turns as salespersons in the shop, bringing back the traditional mix of those who make and those who buy.

Jinny Beyer is a nationallyknown teacher and lecturer on quilt design and will publish her first book in spring 1979. Last year, Jinny won the Good Housekeeping National Quilt Contest—first out of nearly 10,000 entries. Her patchwork creations, both wall hangings and clothing, are sold exclusively at Rush River.

Barbara S. Bockman is an artist who has exhibited her watercolor and acrylic paintings in the metropolitan area since 1958 and holds several awards for her work. She is currently doing block prints of historic buildings in Rappahannock County, American weathervanes and American birds of field and shore.

Ann Friend Clark is another artist. Instead of canvas, she uses the white clays of porcelain and white stoneware, painting flowers and the most intricate of quilt designs with delicate touch.
