Act Endorsed
The Virginia Farm Bureau Federation at its annual convention last week in Norfolk endorsed the principles of marketing and bargaining legislation and agreed to make such legislation a priority for Farm Bureau support.
A bill to establish procedures for farmers to set up recognized bargaining units was introduced into the last session of Congress just prior to adjournment. No action was taken on the legislation and apparently, the Marketing Act will be resubmitted when Congress convenes in January.
Sam Snead, Rappahannock orchard ist and area director for the Virginia Farm Bureau Marketing Association, reported that he would try to arrange a meeting on the marketing legislation with 7th District Congressman J. Kenneth Robinson, also an orchardist. In addition, Snead plans to present a program on the Marketing Act at the local VPI sponsored fruit school, held in February at Graves Mountain Lodge.
