Miss Lucy Estes of Washington was 90 years old last Friday. For most of her
as a professional at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond and then as the devoted caretaker for her family.
Miss Lucy was a registered nurse for 50 years. She entered training at the Virginia Flospital in Richmond. at that time a charitable institution. It was later added to and became the Medical College of Virginia where she graduated in 1920.
When the Medical College Hospital first opened. Miss Lucy nursed the first patient admitted to the facility, Mrs. Smithdeal. wife of the founder and president of the business college in Richmond which bears his name.
Upon her retirement as a registered nurse, she was presented a citation, a pin and a letter of commendation from the Alumni Association of the Medical College. "This is a token of appreciation for your many years of untiring service in the healing arts,” the citation read.
