Marshall Edward Corbin and William Putnam, both of Amissville, were given a year’s suspended sentence, 18 months probation and fined $500 each for impersonating police officers in Shenandoah National Park.
The two appeared before Judge James C. Turk in Federal District Court in Harrisonburg on Monday. August 13.
In accordance with a plea bargaining agreement between the U. S. attorney and the lawyer for the two men, Corbin and Putnam pleaded guilty to impersonating a police officer in the Park. In exchange, charges of felonious assault were dropped. The incident from which the charges arose occurred May 8. Harrisonburg attorney Franklin Blatt represented Corbin and Putnam.
Corbin is a candidate for Sheriff of Rappahannock County in the November elections. Putnam manages the Lombardy Restaurant outside Amissville.
