sweaters, nats—even rain t coats and rubbers—they’re the epitome of the pampered pet. Despite the evidence presented in dog acts by hundreds of talented poodle performers, it’s hard to believe that any animal who looks so ludicrous can have a brain.
No High Fashion Styles
Marilyn doesn’t have her dogs clipped into any of the more fashionable styles that leave the poor things looking half-naked and more than half ridiculous. The Bailey dogs are washed, brushed and trimmed—not shaved and manicured. Standing ten inches or less at the shoulder and weighing only about ten pounds, the toys look sturdier and more dignified carrying the coat that Nature gave them.
To a stranger, Marilyn’s poodles are identical—all silver gray, all furry and all tiny with enormous brown eyes staring out of a clipped face framed by droopy ears. But Marilyn would no more confuse Tasha with Tina than she would fail to recognize her own kids. “They look as different as our children did,” she said. “Of course, their personalities are very diversified—from meek-mannered Alvin to the barky females.”
