Rappahannock County sent a contingent of 39 campers, five junior leaders and three adult leaders to Powell’s Fort Camp in the George Washington National Forest last week.
With youngsters from Page and Warren Counties, the campers were divided into four tribes under the leadership of teenaged junior leaders.
The junior leaders served as counselors during morning classes that covered a range of interests from leather work to cooking. They also supervised afternoon athletic activities and evening camp fires.
County campers and junior leaders alike came home loaded with awards. Courtney Jones and Joe McCullough were selected as the outstanding junior leaders. Paul Keithly was Big Chief and Kelly Gilkey was chosen as Scribe.
As chief of the tribe that exemplified the most spijif during the week of camping, Julie Burke received the Spirit Stick.
During a closing candlelight ceremony Julie also received the Hands Award for being the most helpful camper. Willie Arias won the
