Gas shortages appear to be having an impact on tourism at Shenandoah National Park, according to statistics released by Park Superintendent Robert Jacobsen.
In July, 1978, visitors to the park totalled 329,100. For July, 1979, visitors numbered only 191,800—a decrease of 41.6 per cent.
For Calendar Year 1979 compared with Calendar Year 1978, the decrease is 23.4 per cent. The number of overnight stays in the park during the month of July dropped fro.tnJ,Xftl,082 in 1978 to 80,543 in 1979.
Readings from the Big Meadows weather station show the maximum temperature for July as 79 degrees and the minimum as 43 degrees. Precipitation totalled 3.01 inches.
