The merger of Northern Piedmont Electric Cooperative and Virginia Electric Cooperative will come to a membership vote Thursday evening. August 16, at the annual meeting to be held at the Culpeper High School Auditorium.

Registration will open at 6 p.m. for the 7:30 p.m. meeting which is expected to draw the Cooperative's largest meeting attendance ever.

This night will finalize a more than five year effort on the part of Northern Piedmont to effect cost savings for members by eliminating overlapping administrative and overhead costs incurred by the two Cooperatives.

The Board of Directors decision to merge the two organizations requires approval of a majority of both Cooperatives total membership. about 10,000 at Northern Piedmont and 25,000 at Virginia Electric Cooperative.

“The importance of this decision cannot be overemphasized," stated Edwin A. Kann, manager of the local Cooperative, “and we would certainly want to encourage the participation in this meeting by as many of our members as possible.”
