If you often have complaints or need information and do not know who to contact for help, this list of toll-free numbers compiled by the Virginia Tech Extension Information Office may help be of service to you. Virginia Office of Consumer Affairs 1-800-5529963, attempts to aid those who have consumer complaints against a private business or state agency. State Corporation Commission 1-800-552-9760. It has appropriate branches to handle complaints about auto, life or health insurance; corporation information; electric, gas, water or sewer problems; telephone inquiries; and banking practices. Virginia Council for the Deaf 1-800-552-7917, acts as a referral agency, providing such information as to where possible employment may be found or where special education may be provided. It will provide an interpreter if a person needs a lawyer. Office of Employee Relations 1-800-552-9720, provides advice to employees who believe they have grievances against their employers.

State Office of Emergency and Energy Services 1-800522-3831, provides information on how to conserve energy on the road or at home.

Virginia Lawyer Referral Service 1-800-552-7977, refers callers to lawyers and agencies which can help them. A lawyer to whom a caller is referred may only charge a maximumof $15 for the first 30 minutes of consultation before a regular fee can be charged.

Medical College of Virginia 1-800-552-7600, provides tape recordings concerning specific or general health problems.

Veteran's Hotline 1-800542-5826, provides information concerning benefits.

State Board of Elections 1800-552-9745, provides information on registering and voting as well as information on qualifications for candidates.

Developmental Disabilities Protection and Advocacy Office, better known as Office of Human Resources 1-800-552-3962, answers questions concerning the legal rights of the handicapped in such areas as education, employment and benefits.

Welfare Child Protections Services 1-800-522-7096, handles suspected case of child abuse or neglect.

Welfare Food Stamp Program 1-800-552-3431, provides information on , eligibility of those seeking food stamps.
