The growing use of insecticides has reduced their numbers. The chemical sprays usually do not harm frogs or toads, but do cut down the animals’ food supply.
The urban gardener who decides a toad would be useful in the back yard probably will have to go out into the woods or the countryside to fetch one.
A word of caution: Toads are cheaper than petroleumbased insecticides, but they also are noisier at night. Light sleepers may choose to do without them.'
Name The Park
The Culpeper Town Council is sponsoring a contest to find a name for the Yowell Meadow Recreatior Site. Entries, either printed or type written, should include the proposed name for the park and the suggestor’s name, address and phone number.
Sealed envelopes should be received by the Town Manager, Town of Culpeper, 118 W. Davis Street, Culpeper, Va. 22701, no later than 5 p.m., September 28, 1979. Envelopes should be marked “Park Name Contest” on the front lower left hand corner. The person who submits the selected name will receive a $25 award.
