With brooms, mops and shovels, Rappahannock Lions Sid Mank, Bob Ingle, Carson Johnson, Albert Doub, Bob Moorefield, Stan Thompson, Nels Parson, Dave Konick and Howard Holschuh worked for two days. Damaged clothing, furniture and appliances were hauled to the dump and replaced with an electric stove and refrigerator donated by neighbors. The kitchen was given a fresh coat of paint.
“We praise the Lord,” said Pawley, “That we're still alive and have a home to return to, and have such wonderful friends.” Mrs. Pawley is recovering from a severe case of poison ivy contracted from her uphill climb through rain-slick brush as they evacuated their home.
