dognappers in Old Hollow just before Christmas. According to Mrs. Estes, the dog was very hostile towards men. She suspects a tranquilizer dart was used to
subdue the animal^and noted that her small, rust-colored collie mixed acted frightened and disturbed foj^about a - week after the First dog disappeared. “Rusty” alsovanished just after the holidays.
Also in Old Hollow, Judy Harrison lost a miniature schanuzer at the same time that Mrs. Estes’ first dog disappeared. Harrison noted that her other dog, a large, unfriendly German Shepherd, displayed unusual behavior, for several days, also acting nervous and frightened.
The Atkins family in Old Hollow had their beagle vanish shortly before Christmas and last week, another family reported a beagle missing in the same hollow.
Nappers A Possibility
“There’s a possibility that a lot of dogs have been picked up by ’nappers,” said county dog warden Jack Bruce. Bruce is not convinced, however, that dognappers are behind the majority of disappearances.
“I’ve been in this business for 21 years and it’s been going on ever since I started,” Bruce said. “A lot of people pay no more attention to their dogs than they do to an airplane going over until the dog’s missing. Then the first shot out of the box is
