Smoot
Funeral services for Sam Smoot, 66, of Boston were *> conducted Wednesday at Geest Funeral Home Chapel, Culpeper with the Rev. William Lancaster. Burial was in the Washington Masonic Cemetery.
Mr. Smoot died Saturday. January 19, 1980 in a Staunton hospital.
Born in Rappahannock County on September 15, 1913, he was the son of the late John Wesley and Martha Riley Smoot. He was predeceased by his wife, Elvia Woodward Smoot.
Survivors include two sons, William Jackson Smoot of Culpeper and Charles Daniel Smoot of Boston; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Ann Dodson of Culpeper and Miss Esther Lee Smoot of Staunton; nine grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Frances Smoot and Mrs. Flora Smoot, both of Stephens City, Mrs. Lillie Smoot of Woodstock and Mrs. Josie Smoot of Staunton.
Mrs. Clater
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Clater, 88, of Warrenton, died Jan. 15 at Fauquier Hospital.
She is survived by two sons, Robert C. and Charles R. Clater, Warrenton, eight grandchildren, 18 greatgrandchildren and one greatgreat-grandchild.
Services were conducted Jan. 18 at the Sperryville United Methodist Church by Rev. Peter Weems. Interment was at the Sperryville cemetery.
