At Park

After a one month rise in November, the first in almost a year, Shenandoah National Park visits declined again in November, according to statistics released by superintendent Robert Jacobsen.

For December 1979 compared with December 1978, the decrease is 6.2 per cent, dropping from 46,000 in ’78 to 43.700 in ’79. Calendar Y&r 1979^Swr^ pared to Calendar Year 1978 shows a mucji larger drop of 22.2 per cent in visitors. Overnight stays for 1979 totaled 434.995 compared to 545,417 in 1978. According to readings taken at the Big Meadows Weather Station, the high temperature was 61 degrees and the low for December was six degrees. Precipitation totalled 2 inches with an additional .75 inches of snow.

VPI Honors

David Brooke Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Newbill Miller of Washington, has been named to the Dean's List of academic honors at Virginia Tech during the fall quarter.

Miller, a sophomore majoring in animal science, earned a 3.4 average or better in the university’s 4.0 grading system.

Beverly Lawrence, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Lawrence of Amissville, has been named to the Dean's List for academic achievement in the fall quarter at Northern Virginia Community College. She earned a 3.2 grade average on the college’s 4.0 scale.
