I he Panthers played better in the second quarter, making 50 per cent of their shots. Rappahannock was shooting throughout the period but put Madison at the foul line too often. Carl Frye, the rebounding force for the Panthers, ended the half with three fouls and had to be more cautious, giving up dominance on the boards. The Mountaineers led at the half 19-30, with Glenn Fletcher sinking a shot at the buzzer.
In the opening minutes of the second half, the Panthers repeated their first quarter performance. They gave up six jumpballs and turned the ball over seven times. Rappahannock's biggest problem early in the third quarter and throughout the rest of the game was bad passing. Madison led 49-29 going into the final period.
Rappahannock started the last quarter on the right foot when Rory Williams forced Madison into four early turnovers. But Rappahannock made only ohe basket on the following fast breaks because of poor ball handling and poor shooting.
The Panthers came up 19 short at the end, falling 5940. Carl Frye was high for the Panthers with 14 points and 7 rebounds.
