Well, we are off and running, committee meetings have started, and bills are beinning to roll. Most bills so far have been* of a local nature so nothing has happened that would affect us back home. Speaking of off and running, it reminds me of the story the lady at the lunch counter told last Friday. Everyone knows her by the name of “Chicken' and for many years she has made sandwiches at the Capitol for hundreds of Delegates, Senators and many Governors.
1 was a little late Friday and told her 1 wanted a sandwich and milkshake to eat while on the road. She told me a story about a Senator Carter from the Valley who years ago always bought three hardboiled eggs to eat while driving. He'd rush in, pick up the eggs, put them in his pocket and was on the way.
After leaving Richmond, as was his usual custom, he reached into his pocket, took out an egg and cracked it on the steering wheel so he could peel it off while driving. What he did not know was that the egg was raw!
Down slushed the egg all over the steering wheel, britches, shoes and floor of tjbe car. “Chicken” said she ^liever saw a man try so foard not to cuss when he returned to her shoo on Monday.
