(Continued from Page 1) added that he thought many of the missing animals had strayed or been struck by cars. He advised pet owners interested in protecting their animals—whether from dognappers or accidents—to make sure they carry identification. .
Bruce said the first thing he does upon picking up a stray is check for tags. “I have a record with the owner’s name for every (county dog) tag that’s been sold. If 1 find a tag on the dog, it takes me just a few minutes to find out who it belongs to,” he said.
Bruce added that out of 19 dogs picked up so far in January, only one wore a tag. He emphasized that it’s as much against the law to buy a tag and let the dog run without wearing it as it is to never buy the tag in the first place.
A current rabies vaccination is the; only prerequisite for purchase of county tags. Bruce reported that a clinic will be held on February 2 at the Old Washington fire house from 10 a.m. to noon with shots at $3 apiece, approximately half the standard vet fee.
