By DAPHNE HUTCHINSON Rappahannock New* Staff Writer Representatives from the Rappahannock Educational Association presented their budget requests for 1980-81 to the school board Tuesday night, asking for improved facilities at the elementary and high school, provision of some fringe benefits and a salary increase of 18 per cent.
The proposed scale ups a starting teacher’s slary from $9,500 to $11,200 with a $300 step increase for each year of experience up to a maximum of $16,000 for 20 years.
The salary proposal also calls for a jump in the bonuses paid teachers with a master’s degree or hours toward that degree and increases in the extra-curricular pay schedule.
RCEA salary committee chairman Susan Henry explained that county teachers have been behind inflation since 1975 and have lost $3,365 in buying power over the last five years.
‘‘Even with the 18 per cent, we won’t catch up with cost of living increases,” she said.
