Last week was a pistol! The workload was so heavy we had to work night and day, though the weekend until 7 p.m. Sunday. It was real pleasant walking to work on Sunday. No traffic to speak of and you could look up and down the side streets without fear of being run over. Saw more beautiful buildings on those streets that I didn’t even know were there. Could walk around corners without fear of a “Joggemaut” ramming your pipe down your throat. They must be like horses, they don’t run on Sundays. I even saw birds, fluttering down on the street and sidewalks, as if they had discovered new territory.
Speaking of birds, I saw a big, fat robin perched on a limb in front of the Governor’s house. Always heard they like to be where it is warmer. Right about now that house is about the warmest spot in Virginia, what with the gas tax coming up tomorrow, the budget, funding House Bill 599, etc. Based on the result of my survey, which this paper was so kind as to run, a great majority favor a two cents per gallon, excluding Metro and nothing else. I plan to vote in this direction. There were a few who wrote for four cents, some with no increase at this
