After baking their own cookies for many years, in the fall of 1933 the Girl Scouts had another idea. Armed with recipes furnished by adult volunteers, the Commissioner of a large metropolitan Girl Scout Council approached the president of a baking company and succeeded in getting the company to prepare and package the Girl Scout cookies, vanilla, in the shape of the scout insignia, the trefoil.
