lime. Well, the budget was approved today by the House and is now on its way to the Senate. The Senate always comes up with changes so we won’t know the final outcome until the last day of the Session, March 8. The House approved a budget of $11.5 billion with very little funds for State growth. In my opinion there shouldn’t have been any. It’s too big now, the only way we will get any kind of a food tax relief is to cut back on spending. Some things you cannot do without and they are as follows: A $70 million increase for education, $881,000 for Mental Health for local community service boards, $4.5 million for substance abuse programs, $736,000 for Homes for Adults, funds for 96 additional State Troopers, $850,000 for delinquency programs, a $187 million reduction for the Department of Highways, unless a gas tax is approved and minor appropriations for other smaller programs.
Enough on the budget; now for some bills. The Senate is quite upset over a House rule to limit postage spending to $100 when the General Assembly is ir session. Mine is way belov that, but pardon the pun, the Senate really goes into orbi when the House gives them i “lickin”.
