cross examining 1 nompson, James W. Fletcher, attorney for Atkins, ascertained that Thompson had no previous law enforcement experiencing before joining the Sheriffs Department two years ago, that he’d worked as an electrician’s helper, photographer and Fireman and had lived in Annandale for four years.

“Where’d you live before that?” asked Fletcher. When Judge Alexander questioned the relevancy of Fletcher’s inquiries, the attorney ex-' plained that he was seeking to determine the deputy’s background and stability but dropped that line of questioning. Instead, he asked Thompson why he approached the Atkins house after he saw deputy Crossman leaving.

Thompson answered that he had reason to believe that Levi Atkins Jr. knew where his father,was.

“Did you have a search warrant?” Fletcher asked, maintaining that Thompson had been told the couple didn’t know where Levi Sr. was.
