Despite numerous handicaps. the little school continued to grow and earn recognition. Sparse athletic equipment did not hinder the achievement of a championship girls' basketball team, which in 1950 had only lost three games in twelve seasons. Even more outstanding was the development of a health care program for students in 1930 which Sperryville pioneered among rural schools in Virginia.
The program, in existence until 19"4. helped provide students with necessarydental and medical care. The annual May Day-Health Dayproductions. which became a traditional and much anticipated highlight of each school year, were organized with the health care program to give recognition and
