Don’t be surprised if you see census workers with their red, white and blue badges still pounding the pavement in your neighborhood. The 1980 Census is not over.
About 300 census employees will continue to visit and telephone households in ' 22 area localities for the next four weeks to make sure that everyone is counted and that all questionnaires are complete. Similar operations are being carried outs throughout the country.
Employees also are checking addresses that Census Bureau records show are vacant. If the addresses are found to be occupied, ' then occupants are counted.
"We hope people will continue to cooperate with the census as they have here in the past," said Mike Flanary. census district office manager in Fredericksburg. * “We want to have the most accurate count humanly possible."
Flanary said that local officials throughout the area have received incomplete, , working counts of population and housing for their jurisdictions. He urged officials to look carefully at the counts and use their local records and expertise to indicate where households may have been missed in census operations so far. Officials can use evidence such as residential building and demolition permits, residential utility connections, land-use maps and tax records to this end. The Fredericksburg census office is scheduled ta cfas»<g late this summer. Official preliminary population and housing-counts for this area then will be publicized.
