Thompson acknowledged that he was in the process of leaving when Levi Atkins Jr. said' he would take the deputies to his father after he finished supper. In response to questioning as to howmany times he hit Levi, Thompson said he struck him twice on the face and then three times on the shoulders. Asked whether Mrs. Atkins had hit him. the deputy replied that she'd neither hit nor threatened him. "She physically got in the way," he concluded.
