Other results of the census show that the number of farms increased from 257 to 266, while the average size changed from 298 to 294 acres. All land in farms totaled 78,214 acres in 1978 compared to 76,633 acres in 1974. Land from which crops were harvested increased from 14,741 to 15,568 acres.
The inventory of cattle and calves changed from 13,672 in 1974 to 11,859 in 1978; the number of hogs and pigs changed from 1,398 to 1,291. Hens and pullets of laying age decreased from 1,699 to 1,657.
Acreages of crops harvested for 1978 and 1974 were as follows: corn for grain, 2,938 acres vs. 1,780 acres; land in orchards, 2,173 acres vs. 2,176 acres; hay, 10,043 acres vs. 8,939 acres;com silage, 603 acres in 1978.
Production of corn for grain for 1978 was 273,500 bushels compared to 110,000 bushels in 1974.
