Outside the door of this emporium, a man squatted at a grindstone, actually polishing stones. Have you ever wondered how it is done—how such a small thing as a gemstone is held against the wheel? Now I know. I have on my desk a souvenir the gem-cutter gave me. a little stick with an amethyst attached to the end of it with a lump of hard wax.
