Over 140 enthusiastic political partisans attended the Seventh Congressional District Republican quarterly meeting at the Culpeper Holiday Inn last week.
In a speech well received. Seventh District Representative J. Kenneth Robinson noted that both Virginia Senators as well as Republican presidential nominee Ronald Reagan all now reside in the Seventh District. He complimented the area for supplying such outstanding individuals and warmly thanked the crowd for its support.
Robinson described the Seventh District as the key to Reagan’s campaign in Virginia, adding that the state was important as well on the national scene. Although Robinson noted that he faces no opponent in his bid for a sixth term, he urged a heavy turn-out in Virginia to assure that the state goes overwhelming for Reagan. He warned that Democratic president Jimmie Carter is a shrewd and clever campaigner who will run an effective campaign which will try to gloss over the failures of the current administration.
According to Robinson, Republican campaigns in the Seventh District will be run on an "as-money-isavailable” basis. The representative cautioned that complicated federal election laws must be complied with in every respect, particularly as regulations relate to the separation of presidential and congressional campaign efforts. The Rappahannock Retired Teachers Association will hold its annual fall meeting at the Teepee Restaurant in Sperryville on Tuesday. September 9 beginning at 10:30 a.m.
The meeting will include a social hour and a luncheon under the direction of Mrs. Arlene Wake. All retired teachers are invited to attend.
