certain sacrifices, they say. Both have had to give up a favorite sporting — canoeing—because spring is the time that their horses require the most care.
“It is a sacrifice . . . there are days when you’d rather die than train, but you have to push things aside. It can become a chore at times—when you have to do anything that consistently it’s bound to be some times,” says Patty.
But the sacrifice is a loving one. "Our horses are like children to us—they become like family, we spend so much time with them,” say the couple. As a result Patty has developed almost a sixth sense about their animals’ behavior patterns and needs, and says,” . . . you can look and see what’s wrong with an animal; we watch them constantly and detect problems by analyzing the brightness of their eyes or by their unusual movements.”
