The Moonshiners toppled the Rebels for the Rappahannock championship in a round-robin softball tournament held in the county on August 30 and 31.
The Moonshiners won five straight games, scoring a total of 86 runs to take first place. The Rappahannock Rebels won four for five to win second place while the Estes team from Front Royal won three for five to finish third.
Leading hitters for the Moonshiners were Fred Fisher who went 15 for 19 with one homerun and one double and Maury Nichols who went 14 for 22 with six homeruns. Dave Concine went 12 for 19. Danny Wood 13 for 20 with three walks and Dean Hahn 10 for 16 with two homeruns.
Winning pitchers for the Moonshiners were David Foster and Frank Adams. Other players were Stuart Henry, Steve Foster, Bernie Foster. Mike Foster, Terry Foster, Larry Comstock, Sammy Wines, Richard Mahoney, Robert Atkins, Junior Lambert and James Stringfellow.
