As one of the leading princes of India, he had been invited to the coronation in London of the new King-Emperor, George V. But as a pious Hindu the maharajah never drank of or washed in any water but that of the holy river Ganga. So these vessles were designed to provide him with a water supply for his whole European trip.

Jaipur’s final gesture of hospitality to our party was a dinner given by another fine new hotel, the Mansingh, close to the Pink City. There we were presented to the dowager Maharani of Jaipur, now serving as president of the tourist authority of the State of Rajastan. We dined on the lawn in the maharani's company and were entertained to an admirable display of traditional Rajastani dancing. To our delight, two of the younger women in our group accepted an invitation to join the dancers on the platform and
