“I'm not against vocational courses." Eastham explained in clarification of his earlier remarks. “I’m in favor of teaching valid skills. I'm not proposing that we cancel any course.”
Beverly Massie voiced her support for continuing all the courses currently offered at RCHS. “1 don’t consider any electives as frills.” she said, adding that her vote would be to adopt all the curriculum change, proposed in October.
Lane moved that the board accept its consensus reached at the . .October board meeting, including addition of the second foreign language. Nancy Reeve seconded the motion. But as chairman Massie went around the table, asking each board member for their stand on the second language, first Miller, then Eastham and then Lane said they would support offering only one language at this time. Nancy Reeve stuck by the addition of a second and speaking last. Mrs. Massie said she agreed with one.
Lane’s amended motion to adopt all the curriculum changes endorsed by consensus in October—with the exception of a foreign language—passed unanimously.
Dr. Bloomer was asked to review his earlier recommendation for five new classrooms at RCHS in light of the board’s decision and to bring the information to the February board meeting, sdl for the start of discussions of capital outlay.
