To the editor: This ends another year of my work with the senior citizens of your county. In February we will have completed 4 years of service , at the nutrition site at theHampton Inn. From a scant start of one1 day per week, we now are serving meals 5 days per week. The last two months of 1980 we had 591 and 592 as the total meal count. Our meals site is the most visible aspect of the senior citizen program because of its location. Personally I think our location at the Hampton Inn is a plus for the program in many ways. First, I think Mrs. Cebula prepares and serves outstanding meals for the $2.05 she receives as payment. Second, by being more visible we receive more donations from the public. I’ve yet to hear anyone who after seeing us in action has anything but good words for our work.
Personally I would be doing much of what I now do as a donation of my time, although maybe not as many days per week. The thanks I get are as big a part of my salary as the check I receive each month.
In the months to come we are looking for better ways to serve more people. One plan is visits at lunch time to shut in people. Our van would transport two persons plus their meals and also one for the guest. They would lunch together and visit until time to return home.
The manager of the theatre has made movies affordable to my group. We hope to get a few more dollars in donations and then we will try to see one movie per month.
Be looking for a quilt by spring. Our last afghan went to a local person and the first quilt stayed in Sperryville. Thanks for your support in these money making projects.
